Shipping container swimming pools

Always dreamed of having a swimming pool at home? Why not invest in a shipping container pool?

These unique container conversions first made an appearance in 2017, when Canadian couple – Paul and Denise Rathnam – launched the ‘Modpool’. Whilst on holiday in California, they noticed how pools had become much smaller and more compact. And this observation gave them an idea; to convert standard metal shipping containers into all-singing-all-dancing container swimming pools.

A revolutionary shipping container conversion

Described as the ‘pool of the future’, Modpools immediately caught the eye of trendy homeowners.

Initially, they were only available in two sizes. But now, as a result of their success, you can choose between a 12ft, 20ft, or 40ft design. To convert the container, just a few structural modifications are required. For example, a heavy-duty pool coping is added to the top – giving the container pool enough strength to hold 4,800 gallons of water – as well as a modern sanitation and heating system.

What’s more, customers are given the option to include:

  • colour-changing LED lights
  • powerful water jets
  • a large viewing window
  • an interior acrylic divider, to separate the pool from the hot tub area

Everything is controlled using a smartphone or tablet. And the best bit? The jets can be used to create an ‘endless swim spa’, in which a strong current allows the user to swim in one place.

It’s easy to understand why these revolutionary shipping container pools have become so popular. They’re a fantastic addition to any backyard and come hand-in-hand with many benefits. That’s why, since the release of the Modpool, new designs have started to pop up everywhere – not just in Canada, but across the rest of the world. The question is, is it time for you to buy yours?

Five reasons to invest in a shipping container pool

1. Affordability

First things first, you’ll want to know: ‘How much do shipping container swimming pools cost?’.

As a relatively new and innovative product, most people assume they’re expensive – but, here in the UK, that certainly isn’t the case. The exact cost will depend on the size and features chosen. However, no matter which options you go for, container pools are a much more affordable option than the traditional outdoor variety – and well within budget for most homeowners.

It’s also important to note, above-ground container pools do not need a fence around the perimeter. Unlike traditional pools, you only need a gate for the entrance, and this can save a lot of money.

2. A bespoke design

One of the main benefits of a container pool is they’re made bespoke-to-order. A diverse range of dimensions is available – which means you can choose the perfect size for your garden.

The shipping container itself can also be customised to meet your personal needs and preferences. For example, they can be painted in different colours, they can be installed above or below ground, or you can add a variety of sophisticated features (e.g. lighting, hot tub jets, etc.). It’s entirely up to you.

3. Quick and easy installation

Shipping container swimming pools are incredibly easy to install. In fact, above-ground designs can be up-and-running in just a couple of hours. No excavation work is required. The ground simply needs to be levelled and prepared – with either a layer of compact gravel or concrete base – so that the shipping container can be laid securely and connected to a nearby electricity supply.

This a major benefit compared to traditional pools, which often take many months to install. Just pencil a date in the diary and, before you know it, your new container pool will be ready to enjoy.

4. Maintenance

Most swimming container pools come with an in-built filtration and sanitisation system. They’re also typically supplied with a cover for when not in use – and, therefore, are very easy to maintain.

5. Mobility

Lastly, it’s worth pointing out that container pools are a ‘future-proof’ investment. If you decide to move home in the future – or wish to relocate the pool to a different property – the shipping container can simply be lifted onto the back of a truck and transported to the new location. Here it can be quickly and easily re-installed and subsequently enjoyed for many years to come.
