London Containers Get Hip
Take a stroll along the Regent’s Canal and what do you expect to see? Lord Snowdon’s Aviary, perhaps, or Lord’s Cricket Ground, right? How about a two-storey stack of shipping containers sitting quietly in a line?
The shipping container conversion trend is continuing apace – this time in hipster-central, Shoreditch. This specific location is certainly no stranger to shipping containers, already being home to BoxPark, a pop-up mall full of fashion, food and galleries and made from – you guessed it – shipping containers, or should that be shopping containers?
Now there’s a new kid on the block: ContainerVille sits right by the Regent’s Canal, and it’s hoped the block will become the new home to start-up companies. This base isn’t too far from the East London tech hub, so it’s not unlikely to see more technology-based companies moving into these converted containers.
There are 30 containers in total, each of which capable of holding eight desks. For £1000 a month, these lucky start-up companies will have access to high-speed internet, as well as electricity and water. Everything needed, essentially, for the next Facebook or Amazon to start right here in the UK! The location is also ideal for new offices, given the absolute abundance of eateries – trendy ones, of course, serving hummus and grass, probably – as well as some seriously stunning and, we hope, productivity-enhancing views.
The shipping container revolution is really starting to hot up. From homes to hotels; stores to start-ups, it just goes to prove what’s possible when you blend creativity and containers. After all, they’re affordable, modular and eco-friendly – especially when upcycled in this way.
Here at Gap Containers we really do love seeing just how much the industry is evolving to meet the needs of the modern age, and it’s a cause we’ll always champion, given the many uses for the humble shipping container.
